June 23 2019
Marjorie Padamado Esposo, a Filipina national, arrives to work in Lebanon as a migrant domestic worker (MDW) for Thereze Hayek Ayoub and Maroun Ayoub. Thereze is a lawyer and Maroun owns businesses in Lebanon and Kuwait. Marjorie is married with one child. Hundreds of thousands like her work in Lebanon, separated from their families and exploited in every possible way by Lebanese employers uninterested in the enormous sacrifice these young women make to feed their children worlds away.

Juvy Anne Apostol, also Filipino, becomes the next vulnerable victim to be employed by Thereze Hayek and Maroun Ayoub.
Juvy suffered repeated and sustained physical abuse. There is photographic evidence.

Jun Salavador Padamada, contacted This Is Lebanon from the Philippines asking for help for his sister Marjorie Padamado Esposo.
He writes:
“My sister, Marjorie, is being hurt by both her employers. She is always suffering beatings on her head. Her employer contacted us asking for money in exchange for my sister to go home. Marjorie hasn’t sent any money home. She hasn’t had her period for months. She’s afraid when she talks to us and every time she speaks our language, her employer makes her speak English. Please help us.”

This Is Lebanon contacts Juvy Anne Apostol, the former domestic worker in the Ayoub house. She writes, “Madam Thereze slapped me and she beat me. Her husband and her mother also beat me.” She is afraid to testify in a video.

This Is Lebanon intervenes and places a phone call to one of Marjorie’s abusers, Mrs Thereze Hayek.

Mrs. Thereze Hayek claims that Marjorie is not sending money home because her husband has taken a mistress and wouldn’t spend the money on her son.
She also claims Marjorie regularly goes shopping and loves to buy clothes and things at the $1 shop. Mrs. Hayek says her husband, ‘a very loving man’, is concerned about the situation and wants her to force Marjorie to send her money home, but Marjorie her MDW, refuses.
She says they are paying Marjorie in full and even giving her extra. She claims that Juvy, the other worker, left the house because she was pregnant and went back to the Philippines.
Juvy, Mrs. Hayek’s former kafala slave, was forcibly removed from the Ayoub house-hold by Saliba agency following photographic evidence of her abuse by Mr. and Mrs. Ayoub. She was not pregnant and is now employed in a different house in Lebanon.
Mrs. Hayek is now holding Marjorie for ransom demanding that her family back in the Philippines send her the sum of $2500 in order to obtain her release.
According to Mrs. Hayek, her and her husband have implored Marjorie to contact her family but she replies that they are busy.

This Is Lebanon asks Mrs. Hayek about the bruises to Juvy’s face and arm. (Juvy Anne Apostol, also Filipino is Mrs. Hayek’s former slave).

That the bruise on her forehead was caused by her young son throwing a car and she expresses ignorance of how the bruise on the arm was caused.
Juvy says the bruises are from abuse inflicted by beatings from nearly the entire family: Thereze Hayek and Maroun Ayoub and Thereze’s mother, Susan.

This is Lebanon contacts Marjorie’s agent, Elie Samra.
Mr. Samra says he will ask at the Ministry of Labour and see what can be done to remove Marjorie from the house but suggests it will be difficult because the 3-month trial period is over and she is already registered under Thereze’s name. Mr. Samra asks TIL to wait two days.

This Is Lebanon follows up with the Agent that sold Marjorie to Thereze Hayek and Maroun Ayoub: Elie Samra.
During that conversation the agent, Mr. Samra, is at both the Ministry of Labour and General Security trying to secure Marjorie’s release.
We inform Mr. Samra, that despite the trial period being over, Marjorie has the right to leave the Ayoub’s employ because she has not been paid for 3 consecutive months. He concurs. Elie puts This Is Lebanon in contact with J****e, a Labour inspector with the Ministry of Labour.
Important note:
Since the foundation of our organization on 1 June 2017, This Is Lebanon has sought to open a channel of communication with the Ministry of Labour. Attempts to contact them through their website proved futile.

J****e, Labour Inspector at MOL, receives a large amount of photographic and audio evidence (via TIL) She responds, “The case will be registered in the Ministry of Labor and we will work on it.”

This Is Lebanon received the image of a letter supposedly written by Marjorie:
“I’m Marjorie Padamada Esposo, working for Mr and Mrs Madam Therese Hayek Ayoub, receiving every month salary and extra money from their heart. I arrived here June 23, 2019. I start my work until now and I received salary every month from them.”
Marjorie Padamada Esposo has never been paid.
The fake letter is dated and signed January 31, 2020. “This Is Lebanon” reached out to Marjorie’s family and was able to obtain a picture of her signature. The signatures DO NOT match and the letter is clearly a fake. This information is forwarded to J****e.

J****e, Labour Inspector at MOL declares: “We will be resolving this issue very soon, we are aware. And within 2 days it will be resolved.”
March 3 2019
This Is Lebanon follows up with J****e, Labour Inspector at MOL.
The message reads:
“Hi J****e. It has now been 8 days since we contacted you about Marjorie. This is an urgent case as we have photographic evidence of physical violence. We have no option now but to post about her and put pressure on the employers. We will say that the case was referred to a Ministry of Labour inspector on 24 February. We'd like to be able to say that action was taken but we don't have any reply from you about what has been done. Could you urgently update us on this case? Thank you.”
J****e, Labour Inspector at MOL replied:
“Please refer to the ministry for any inquiry: [email protected].”
The abrupt message over Whatsapp was immediately followed by blocking “This Is Lebanon” from any further correspondence or communication with the Labour inspector at Lebanon’s Ministry of Labour.

This Is Lebanon writes an email to the Ministry of Labour about Majorie's case. They read it 16 hours after it is sent. They do not reply, nor do they take any action to assist Marjorie.

اتصل جون سالافادور بادامادا ، بـ " هذا لبنان" من الفلبين يطلب المساعدة من أجل شقيقته مارجوري بادامادو إسبوزو.
ويكتب التالي:
"أختي مارجوري تتعنف من قبل أصحاب العمل. و تعاني دائماً من الضرب على رأسها. اتصلت صاحبة العمل بنا لطلب المال مقابل عودة شقيقتي إلى بلدها. لم ترسل مارجوري أية أموال إلى الوطن. لم تأتها الدورة الشهرية منذ أشهر. وتشعر بالخوف عندما تتحدث إلينا. في كل مرة تتحدث فيها لغتنا، يجبرها احب عملها على التحدث بالإنجليزية. ساعدونا من فضلكم ."

يتصل "هذا لبنان" بـ جوفي آن أبوستول، عاملة المنزل السابقة في منزل أيوب. كتبت: "مدام تيريز صفعتني وضربتني. كما أن زوجها ووالدتها أيضا ضرباني". لكنها تخشى الشهادة في مقطع فيديو.

يتدخل "هذا لبنان" ويقوم بإجراء مكالمة هاتفية مع أحد الذين يسيئون معاملة مارجوري، السيدة تيريز حايك.

في المحادثة:
تدعي السيدة تيريز حايك أن مارجوري لا ترسل أموالاً إلى بلدها لأن زوجها اتخذ عشيقة له، ولن ينفق المال على ابنها. وتدعي أيضاً أن مارجوري تواظب على التسوق وتحب شراء الملابس والأشياء من متجر دولار واحد. تقول السيدة حايك إن زوجها ، "رجل محب للغاية". إنه يشعر بالقلق إزاء الوضع ويريدها أن تجبر مارجوري على إرسال أموالها إلى الوطن، لكن مارجوري عاملة المنزل المهاجرة ترفض ذلك.
وتقول إنهم يدفعون أجر مارجوري بالكامل، بل و يعطونها مالاً إضافياً. إنها تدّعي أن جوفي، العاملة الأخرى، غادرت المنزل لأنها كانت حاملاً وعادت إلى الفلبين.
لكن جوفي، "العبدة" السابقة للسيدة حايك بالكفالة، تم إبعادها قسراً من منزل أيوب من قبل الوكالة التي باعتها كعبدة بعد أدلة بالصور على تعنيفها من قبل السيد والسيدة أيوب. لم تكن حاملًا، والآن تعمل في منزل آخر في لبنان.
تحتجز السيدة حايك الآن مارجوري و تطلب من عائلتها في الفيليبين فدية قدرها 2500 دولار لتطلق سراحها.
ووفقًا للسيدة حايك، فقد التمست هي وزوجها من مارجوري الاتصال بعائلتها، لكنها أجابتهم بأنهم مشغولون.

يسأل "هذا لبنان" السيدة حايك عن الكدمات التي على وجه جوفي. (جوفي آن أبوستول، الفلبينية العبدة السابقة أيضاً للسيدة حايك(.

أن سبب الكدمات على جبينها هو إلقاء ابنها الصغير سيارة عليها. و تقول أنها لا تعرف سبب الكدمة على ذراعها.
تقول جوفي إن الكدمات ناتجة عن الضرب التي تعرضت له من جميع أفراد العائلة تقريباً: تيريز حايك ومارون أيوب، وسوسن الدة تيريز.

يقول السيد سمرة إنه سيسأل في وزارة العمل ويرى ما يمكن القيام به لإبعاد مارجوري من المنزل، لكنه يشير إلى أن الأمر سيكون صعباً لأن فترة التجربة لمدة 3 أشهر قد انتهت وأنها مسجلة فعلياً على اسم تيريز. يطلب السيد سمرة من " هذا لبنان" الانتظار لمدة يومين.

يتابع "هذا لبنان" الموضوع مع الوكيل الذي باع مارجوري إلى تيريز حايك ومارون أيوب: إيلي سمرة.

أثناء تلك المحادثة، يعمل الوكيل، السيد سمرة، مع كل من وزارة العمل والأمن العام في محاولة لتأمين إطلاق سراح مارجوري.
نُعلم السيد سمرة أنه على الرغم من انتهاء الفترة التجريبية، فإن مارجوري لها الحق في ترك العمل لدى أيوب لأنها لم تحصل على أجر لمدة 3 أشهر متتالية. يبدي اتفاقه بالرأي و يؤمن إيلي اتصالاً لجمعية " هذا لبنان" مع ج** م**، مفتشة العمل بوزارة العمل.
ملاحظة مهمة:
منذ تأسيس جمعيتنا في 1 يونيو 2017 ، سعى "هذا لبنان" إلى فتح قناة اتصال مع وزارة العمل. أثبتت محاولات الاتصال بهم من خلال موقعهم على الإنترنت أنها غير مجدية.
"أخيرًا"، فرحنا! وجدنا طريقة للتواصل معهم!

ج*** م**، مفتشة العمل في وزارة العمل، تتلقى كمية كبيرة من الأدلة الفوتوغرافية والصوتية من "هذا لبنان". فتجيب: "سيتم تسجيل القضية في وزارة العمل وسنعمل على حلها".

تلقى "هذا لبنان" صورة لرسالة يفترض أن مارجوري كتبتها:
"أنا مارجوري بادامادا إسبوزو، أعمل لدى السيدة والسيدة مدام تيريز حايك أيوب، أتلقى راتباً شهرياً وأموالاً إضافية من قلبهم. وصلت إلى هنا في 23 يونيو ، 2019. أبدأ عملي حتى الآن واستلمت راتباً شهرياً منهم ".
لم تتلق مارجوري بادامادا اسبوزو أي راتب.
الرسالة المؤرخة هي مؤرخة وموقعة في 31 يناير 2020. "هذا هو لبنان " تواصل مع عائلة مارجوري وتمكن من الحصول على صورة لتوقيعها. التواقيع لا تتطابق والرسالة مزيفة بشكل واضح. أعيد توجيه هذه المعلومات إلى ج** م**.
25 فبراير 2020
تصرح ج** م**، مفتشة العمل في وزارة العمل: "سنقوم بحل هذه المشكلة في وقت قريب جداً، ونحن مدركون للأمر. وفي غضون يومين سيتم حلها ".
26 فبراير 2020
يتابع "هذا لبنان" الأمر مع ج** م**، مفتشة العمل في وزارة العمل.
تقول الرسالة:
"مرحبا ج**. لقد مضى ثمانية أيام منذ أن اتصلنا بك بخصوص مارجوري. هذه حالة ملحة لأن لدينا أدلة فوتوغرافية على العنف الجسدي. ليس لدينا خيار الآن سوى نشرها والضغط على أصحاب العمل. سوف نقول أنه تم إحالة القضية إلى مفتش بوزارة العمل في 24 فبراير. نود أن نكون قادرين على القول بأن الإجراء قد اتخذ، ولكن ليس لدينا أي رد منك حول ما تم القيام به. هل يمكنك إطلاعنا عاجلاً على الجديد في هذه القضية ؟ شكرا لك".
أجابت ج** م** ، مفتشة العمل في وزارة العمل:
"يرجى الرجوع إلى الوزارة للحصول على أي استفسار: [email protected]."
أعقبت الرسالة المفاجئة على واتساب حظر "هذا لبنان" من أي مراسلات أو اتصالات أخرى مع مفتشة العمل في وزارة العمل اللبنانية.

• هناك أدلة فوتوغرافية على التعنيف الجسدي.
• لم تحصل على أجر لأكثر من ثمانية أشهر.
